CDFI Certification

Lending a helping hand to all our neighbors

As a Community Development Financial Institution, we're working to level the financial playing field in the counties we serve.

Special Designation

We were approved as a CDFI by the US Treasury in 2023.

Focused Support

We can provide life-changing financial resources for low-to-moderate income residents and under-served communities.

Increased Opportunity

CDFIs provide loans to people who wouldn’t be able to get funding through a different financial institution.

More Benefits

We can apply for special funding and grants that give more people access to fair and affordable financial products and services.

We are excited to share that in May 2023, TAPCO Credit Union was approved by the US Treasury to become a Community Development Financial Institution [CDFI]. Less than 10% of all credit unions in the United States have been awarded this designation. To become a certified CDFI, the financial institution must: have a primary mission of promoting community development; serve one or more defined low-income target markets; maintain accountability to the community it serves; and be a legal non-governmental entity.

Obtaining this designation provides TAPCO access to federal grant money to help fund new products and services that benefit underserved areas of our community. We are currently taking the time to engage in community conversations and partnerships to co-create solutions. This will help us make sure we are focusing these grant dollars into the areas that will have the greatest impact in Pierce County.

We are proud to have obtained this designation, humbled by the trust the US Treasury has in TAPCO, and excited to build on our long history of positively serving our community. Learn more about the CDFI Fund.
